One of a family of Colonel's purchase swords manufactured aroun 1708 and bearing the name of Lieutenant General Echlin and as such one of the oldest regimentally-marked British cavalry swords in existence. An extremely rare complete example is held at York Army Museum. Known others from this group number less than 10.
This offering is in relic condition, but it also shows the running wolf mark of a Solingen blade which offers further confirmation of origin.
